Over the last week I've been on a BJ Penn career retrospective, watching all of his old BJJ competitions and fights while reading his book whenever I need to make a pit stop in the bathroom (it's a quick and fun read). BJ's been one of my favorite fighters for years and I didn't really think he was going to stay retired, but it's been 8 months since his last fight, and I wanted to get my fill of The Prodigy. I was even thinking of making a Top Ten BJ Penn guard Passes, that sounds like fun. Now it seems like I somehow sent a telepathic message to BJ with my viewing of his footage, reminding him that he needs to scrap and he hasn't tasted the blood of an opponent in a very long time.

So take this time to drop what you're doing, put on a boot and responsibly kick out the nearest window so you can scream to the heavens that Baby Jay has come out of retirement to accept Rory MacDonald's challenge!

In speaking with the director of BJPENN.COM, and after contemplating the matchup and possible return to action with his advisors, BJ Penn issued the following response to Rory MacDonald…

“Rory, I accept your challenge!”

Now all that is left is to get the UFC on board and put “Penn” to paper.

The bout is proposed for the UFC’s return to Toronto, Ontario Canada on September 22 for UFC 152. No venue has been selected at this time.

BJ Penn will be a guest this Thursday on our very own “Just Scrap Radio” to discuss his return to action. Tune in on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET right here on BJPENN.COM.

There has been no confirmation that the EA UFC videogame swayed BJ to come out of retirement.

BJ walks around at around 170-175 anyway right? Rory said yesterday on mmafighting.com that he walks around at 195-200lbs, giving him a significant size advantage.

Obviously BJ doesn't give a shit about size (see Machida), but it's gonna be interesting to see how he deals with it. Rory's such a beast and he's not gonna try and wrestlefuck BJ like Fitch tried - this is gonna be a real scrap guys. Hope BJ uses the same conditioning peeps that he did for Diego at 155.

bold move, but i dont think he stands a chance if he's come out of an 8 month retirement to fight this guy. he's probably so out of shape right now i'd be surprised if he wasn't gassed by the 2nd round. his only chance is to take him out somehow in the first, if not he's gonna get grinded out hard and possibly TKO'd. now on the off chance BJ really spend most of the time working on his cardio for this fight, and came in the best shape he could be in, i think Rory would be in for some serious trouble

It is an atrocious matchup for Penn. Rory outmatches Penn in every aspect: stamina, strength, size, reach (6.5"), youth, speed.... their striking and grappling matchup remains to be seen.

I look at it this way, BJ Penn is bold as FUCK to take this fight.

Not following the news lately I suppose? After the Penn-Diaz fight' before he injured a knee for the second time, GSP was on a Canadian with a bunch of sports personalities. Apparently they are on good terms with BJ who sent his a text to wish him luck against Diaz. So much for the "Diaz bros are so misunderstood they are sweetest people in real life" bullshit.

I want to see Chuck come out of retirement and knock out Tito into retirement with him. I want to see Fedor drop M1 and finally fight in the UFC. I want to wake up next to Jessica Alba, but it's probably not gonna happen.

Sorry to say it, but unless Penn experienced a life-or-death situation
and changed his outlook in life, it'll be the same shit.

Him, going out there, wasting his potential due to weaksauce training.

If Penn puts in a 100% during his training, he'd already be wearing two belts, Still.
His naturally gifted, and that's the only thing he relies on; which has been his downfall.
