Jake Paul isn’t worried about what’s on the tale of the tape – he’s solely focused on winning and in emphatic fashion.
Did Paul bit off more than he can chew when he brought out Mike Tyson of all people out of retirement? The 27 year-old doesn’t think so, as every fight he’s taken on, has progressed his skill level to a 9-1 record as a professional. It’s been one heck of a ride for Paul so far with previous boxing matches against Nate Diaz, Tommy Fury and Anderson Silva.
‘My Ultimate Test Of Warfare’
Tyson poses a different problem for Paul altogether with his massive edge in championship experience and “old man strength”, if you will, as the former heavyweight champ will be 58 years old at the time of their fight. On paper, Paul may be thought to be a landslide to win, but in real life, Paul knows Tyson’s still got a burning chance at his current age.
“Absolutely,” Paul told TMZ, when asked if Tyson was the toughest fight of his career thus far. “Just moving up to heavyweight, Mike Tyson’s power, his experience, his tenacity, the veteran tricks that he’s gonna pull out. The stage, fighting in a stadium on Netflix, I’m gonna have to manage the nerves and the excitement really well. This is my ultimate test of warfare and that excites me.”
More Eyeballs Than Usual
They say everything’s bigger in Texas and on July 20th, we’re getting a pretty good example of why that is. Paul vs. Tyson will mark the first combat sports event to air live on Netflix, which has over 270M subscribers across the world. On top of that, you have the AT&T Stadium, where the Dallas Cowboys play is where Paul and Tyson will utterly collide for those watching at home.
“It’s crazy to think about. As many people that could fit in the stadium, I think it’s like 90,000 or 93,000. I think it’s gonna be packed to the brim and the global viewership could be in the hundreds of millions. It doesn’t make any sense. But the fact that Netflix is a part of this is like the perfect piece of the puzzle. It makes us this trifecta of Netflix’s audience, my audience and Mike Tyson’s audience.”
No Mercy
Just because the fight is on Netflix doesn’t mean Paul plans to keep the event PG. Tyson was one of the most scariest and most violent fighters of his time and while he’s not as young as he used to be, Paul isn’t taking any chances when it comes to putting Tyson away in the boxing match.
“Absolutely not,” Paul said on if he “takes it easy” on Tyson. “Because if he has the opportunity to do the same, you know damn well that he’s going to finish me in embarrassing fashion. I have to reciprocate that same energy. But Mike Tyson is a killer. He’s ruthless. He is the most vicious champion ever. And so I have to channel that Mike Tyson energy to to finish him. And the legend must fall.”
