- Tom Aspinall revealed his real thoughts on Jon Jones
- The interim heavyweight champ is moving on from “Bones” at the moment to stay focused on his upcoming fight
Tom Aspinall still has respect for Jon Jones but insists the reigning UFC heavyweight champion is already not one of his priorities.
Jones is irrelevant now
Speaking to The Mac Life, Aspinall pointed out that he has completely set his mind on beating Curtis Blaydes in their rematch at UFC 304. For Tom, “Bones” is still the champion and a true legend of the sport. However, Aspinall feels that Jones has become “irrelevant” to what he is focused on at the moment.
“I honestly think Jon Jones is a legend,” Aspinall said. “I respect what he’s done in the Octagon, but right now he’s quite irrelevant to what I’m doing. like I’m fighting Curtis Blaydes and if I can’t get up for this one, coming off a loss against him and trying to redeem myself, then what can I get up for like I need to be 1 million percent focused on this. And this is said with a lot of respect; I have nothing against Jon regardless of what he says. It’s all bollocks.”
Tom had been waiting
Since becoming the UFC interim heavyweight champion, Aspinall has set his sights on taking on Jones. However, “Bones” seemed disinterested in the idea and opted to defend his title against Stipe Miocic instead.
Aspinall has been patiently waiting for Jones but at the same time, he also wants to stay active. UFC president Dana White even acknowledged Aspinall’s case of becoming a formidable opponent for “Bones” and once stated that whoever wins between Jones and Miocic should face Aspinall next.
Until then, Aspinall will not only be looking to avenge his loss to Blaydes at UFC 304 but also extend his winning streak to three in a row.
