Four wins into his UFC career, unranked prospect Vitor Petrino would call out Anthony Smith for a light heavyweight bout, which he now awaits on the main card of UFC 301. Former title challenger Smith rests assured that he is no stepping stone for the Brazilian as he attempts to rebound from a TKO loss to Khalil Rountree Jr. in 2023.
There has never been a better opportunity for Petrino with a potential ranking by his name next week along with home field advantage, fighting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Round 1:
Petrino and Smith trade jabs. Smith lands a leg kick as Petrino attempts to close the striking distance. Petrino lands a leg kick and loads up big on his punches that don’t find their target. Smith throws a couple of leg kicks. Petrino shoots for a takedown and Smith locks up a guillotine during his entry. Petrino picks up Smith for the double-leg takedown but at the expense of being submitted. Within seconds, Petrino taps out to Smith’s guillotine submission.
Official result: Anthony Smith defeats Vitor Petrino via submission in round 1 (2:00)
