Jamahal Hill is here to stay on UFC 303.

A New Fight On The Horizon

Instead of going on a summer vacation, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion will be packing up his bags for International Fight Week. Hill was originally scheduled to face top contender Khalil Rountree Jr. on June 29th with the announcement coming just days prior to Hill’s KO loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 300.

However, a positive drug test for DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) has since removed Rountree from the booking with the light heavyweight fighter accepting a two-month sanction from the UFC’s new anti-doping partner, Combat Sports Anti-Doping.

With Rountree out of the mix, another contender steps in his place. On Thursday, it was revealed that the #11-ranked Carlos Ulberg will be taking on Hill in the new co-main event of UFC 304. The light heavyweight matchup was first reported by NZ Herald’s Christopher Reive with the promotion since making it official across their social media.

The Lead-Up

This is what you call the top of the heap for Carlos Ulberg. The rising prospect just recently snagged a ranking in his last fight, annihilating Alonzo Menifield with punches in a mere 12 seconds. This marked Ulberg’s six-straight win in the UFC with his last five fights not seeing the judges scorecards.

Training out of City Kickboxing in Auckland, New Zealand, Ulberg already trains with some of the best guys in the world but now we’ll see just good he fares against them when he challenges Jamahal Hill – a world champion a fight ago.

Hill, 33, has climbed the mountain to become a UFC Champion, one that he’ll have climb again as he lost in his return against Alex Pereira in April. Hill won the vacant title in Jan. 2023 with a decision win over Glover Texeira, but the belt didn’t stay long Hill’s shoulder for long as he had to vacate it last summer due to injury.

An immediate title fight is what Hill was welcome to at UFC 300, but there he’d fall to a left hand from current champ Pereira, who’d retain his championship by first-round TKO.

Looking to redeem himself on the biggest stage possible, Jamahal Hill gets that chance right before Conor McGregor clashes with Michael Chandler in the main event of UFC 303.
