I spent the entire evening attempting to tarnish a piece of brass using a bottle of ammonia and now my apartment smells like 500 asparagus eaters used my kitchen as a urinal.  In the quest to make a piece of metal look like an antique, I’ve killed more brain cells than huffing an entire scuba tank of helium, and this article is actually being written in my shower where there is amazing ventilation and my brain can return to a state where it can resume harvesting protein.  I’m not sure why I didn’t just do this whole project in the bathroom to begin with, or why M-1 Global feels the need to lie about Fedor’s retirement, but props to Fedor for clearing the air about his ‘bogus last fight’ against Pedro Rizzo in this interview with a Russian TV station:

At the 1:23 minute mark, he says the following:

“It’s not a fact that I will retire. We’ll see after the fight. I don’t know who came to the conclusion that I will coach young fighters. Everyone talks about my retirement, and that I will train young fighters. I never said that.”

Fedor and his brother went on to say that they love to eat anything you put in front of them until they’re asked to leave the dinner table, that they enjoy drinking mineral water and tea, Fedor is only afraid of God, Alexander’s favorite movie star is Fedor, and they answered a whole bunch of other questions about women that can’t quite be put into context because we don’t have passionate, respectful adjectives like that in English.  The only thing Fedor and his brother know for sure is that whoever said he was going to retire made it up.  With the success of Mirko CroCop’s retirement fight in Croatia, followed by his first post-retirement victory in K-1 last week, we’ll let you connect the dots as to where promoters get the idea that this is the ultimate marketing ploy to sell tickets. Does this mean that Fedor will get upset with M1 and do the unthinkable in leaving them to fight in another organization.. all at the same time that talks are surfacing that Lesnar is making his way back into MMA... aligning the stars and creating the ULTIMATE ppv fight?!

While I am happy he is still fighting, I would love to see him either clear out Bellator, complete Cormier's last fight in Strikeforce, or obviously fight in the ___. (Knock on wood)

Regardless of the level of competition he's been beating outside of Strikeforce, he has strung together some wins. If he can make quick work out of Pedro Rizzo, I don't see why there wouldn't be interest in him returning to a bigger promotion.

Unfortunately, M-1 wants to continue playing co-promoting games with his career and if they can't make millions on the side, they're not interested in letting him making any money off of his own fights.

UFC offered him a huge contract when he was still undefeated, but nothing for M-1. Their philosophy is that it's the fighter's responsibility to pay his management, not the other way around.

A lot of promotions died trying to pay off their unreasonable debt to M-1 and I don't expect Bellator or Zuffa take those kinds of risks by co-promoting at this point.

If Fedor want to leave M-1, that's another story, but there was no discussion of that in the video above or anywhere else that I know of.

I think Fedor is trying to reinvent himself and perhaps that's why he's been choosing these particular fights as of late.

So yeah... level of competition aside I'm no longer expecting the same Fedor having to fight the new breed. If he takes his time with Rizzo and still wins fine with me.

Some of you seem confused.... Why are a few people making comments that contradict what you just read in the piece? Anyways, Fedor is actually a big shareholder in M1 Global, so I think he has screwed himself into a unavoidable partnership for probably the life of his career. I see both sides of the argument with M1. Although they have screwed him over and sabotaged his market value and desirability in the American MMA scene, they have made him millions in the international market, as well as aided him in becoming a national hero in Russia. I've always been a huge Fedor fan, and was so very disappointed to see his fall from grace. I hope he has enough left in him to regain glory in the sport. Millions of loyal fans will continue to support him, whichever path he ends up taking!

I hate M-1 and sometimes I think I hate it for reasons that are a little different than most people's. MMA fans are mad at M-1 because they are holding Fedor and some other fighters back with bad contracts and pushing successful promotions out of the money through their co-promotion crap. I hate M-1 because they are what is wrong (in my opinion) with Russia. M-1 is a crook organization, funded not by fans that buy tickets and PPVs but by government deals. They exist solely because the government needs something to show the masses on nationalized news. They have one big name, Fedor, who they milk extensively, and the majority of the MMA community already knows this. They send him on to news channels like the one seen above to tell people that Russia is big and strong and successful and it has all these athletes that everyone fears and respects when the truth is far from that. I can't figure out Fedor 100% and I don't want to bash him, so for now I think he just doesn't care that this is happening. M-1's owners and operators all have serious ties to the government. There is a reason why Putin is at Fedor fights and why the cameras are always trained on them siting next to each other. And there is a reason why Putin getting booed at Fedor's fight was a big deal, it was the cracks in the system showing through, it was the displeasure of the public at, not only the political, but the whole system overall. I wanted to think of M-1 as one of Russia's state owned corporations but in reality it's more like the nationalized news. It can't exist on it's own and only gets funding to push an agenda, to fill the heads of the old and the poor and the stupid with crap to distract them from what is really going on. I'm sorry for not having any links or proof. /rant

i don't think fedor or M-1 ever said he was definitely or officially retiring, it was the so called MMA journalists like you guys. It went from "Fedors contemplating retirement" to "fedor may be retiring after the Rizzo fight" to "Fedors retiring."

Whatever he does I support him hes earned it with the sheer awesomeness of his career, hes the GOAT always has been always will be.
