I often think back at what Randy Couture vs. James Toney would have looked like if James Toney didn’t train for the six months leading up to their fight at UFC 118.  Considering he showed up completely out of shape , didn’t throw a single punch or kick and didn’t appear to know what a sprawl was, I imagine that his training comprised of the same festivities the majority of us partake in every Memorial Day. For me it involved fixing an exhaust leak on my moped and riding out to a BBQ, for the rest of you, the beach or a friend’s backyard swimming pool may have been involved.  Whatever it is, it didn’t involve an MMA gym.  James Toney’s first and only MMA performance in the UFC actually resembles the majority of Bob Sapp’s past twenty MMA+kickboxing performances. The dude actually used to win fights until the late part of the last decade when he realized he could still earn sizeable paychecks regardless of how hard he trains, or how he does in the ring.  When you’re Bob Sapp, nobody seems to care if you win or lose, just that you show up and bring attention to the event you’re competing at that weekend.

Jokes aside, it looks like Bob Sapp is tired of being ridiculed by the MMA media and he wants to re-assure you (the fans) that he plans on training hard for his upcoming fight with Tolegen Akilbekow on June 8 in Astana, Kazakhstan.  If it’s true, this might be a game changer.  According to my calendar, he has approximately eight days before he steps on the scale.  In that short time, Bob Sapp will either hone the skills that once earned him wins in K-1 and Pride, or he’ll just cut another video like this one telling you that he’ll train harder next time.  Either way, we’ll always love Bob Sapp, and keep bringing you non-stop coverage of his ongoing world tour.

I figured it out. Bob Sapp is involved in some sort of reverse-Quantum Leap scenario where he needs to keep losing fights so the other fighters careers will get better. After he tanks enough fights he'll go back in time to his PRIDE/K-1 days to relive his glory.
