Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya nearly threw hands during a press event in ‘Sin City’ on Wednesday.
Returning to the ring this Saturday night, Alvarez is scheduled to put his undisputed super middleweight title on the line against undefeated knockout artist Jaime Munguía. Ahead of their highly anticipated clash, the champ and the challenger addressed members of the media inside T-Mobile Arena.
As expected, things were intense — particularly between Alvarez and legendary pugilist De La Hoya who had previously represented the Guadalajara boxing star
“There were times my work wasn’t my priority based on my mental health which I neglected for so long but that doesn’t change the fact that Golden Boy built Canelo Alvarez, period,” De La Hoya said in a prepared statement.
He added, “The company you fought under for decades has always had one name and it’s mine so put some f*cking respect on it.”

Alvarez has shared his disdain for De La Hoya on more than one occasion, but during an appearance on the Full Send podcast last year, ‘Canelito’ accused the 11-time world champion of not caring about the fighters he represents. That is likely what lit a fire under De La Hoya, who currently represents Jaime Munguía.
Canelo Alvarez Responds to ODLH
Taking offense to De La Hoya’s comments, Alvarez stood up and approached the Hall of Famer like he was ready to throw hands. Fortunately, security stepped in between the two, preventing the situation from escalating further.
Of course, that didn’t stop Alvarez from responding to ODLH on the mic.

Those who don’t speak Spanish were left wondering what exactly Alvarez said in response. When asked by a member of the media, ‘Canelito’ offered his own translation.
“He’s a f*cking asshole. That’s what I say. He’s a f*cking asshole. He tries to get attention for him, not Munguia. He’s a f*cking asshole. He steals [from his] fighters. F*cking p*ssy. Motherf*cker,” Alvarez said.
Needless to say, there’s no love lost between Alvarez and De La Hoya which is sure to supply an added level of intrigue to Saturday’s showdown in Las Vegas.
