The 2023 Mr. Olympia in Orlando, Florida, has wrapped up with eleven winners taking home gold.

The Olympia Fitness and Performance Weekend, brought to you by legendary Joe Weider, stands as the epitome of bodybuilding extravagance across the globe. With participants and connoisseurs journeying from all over the world, this illustrious event amasses global recognition. The highly anticipated 2023 Mr. Olympia is scheduled to unfold on November 2-5, casting its spell in the enchanting city of Orlando, Florida.

With the opportunity to earn the largest payout in the sport, the distinguished title of Mr. Olympia comes with a $400,000 prize, a gold medal, and the Sandow trophy, not to mention the major bragging rights.

The face-off between reigning champion Hadi Choopan and teammate Derek Lunsford may be the most eagerly awaited event of the entire weekend. However, Samson Dauda pushed his way in as a contender boasting his rapid improvement and big muscle value. Hadi Choopan is coming in with unparalleled muscle hardness and striated conditioning while he aims to retain the Mr. Olympia title. 

The 59th Olympia event displays athletes from across 11 distinct divisions. A victory in any of these categories sets that bodybuilder apart and only the greatest will prevail. 

Derek Lunsford made history Saturday night as a two-division champion and became the 18th Mr. Olympia earning the Sandow trophy.

Lunsford secured a lasting legacy by becoming the first-ever athlete to claim Olympia championships in various categories, capturing the 212 Olympia championship in 2021 and seizing the coveted title in the 2023 Mr. Olympia Men’s Open division. Lunsford’s achievements continued as he also received the People’s Choice Award!

The 2023 Mr. Olympia was the night of upsets as seven champions were dethroned though four reigning champions went on to maintain their respective titles.

After a highly anticipated showdown between a trio of contenders, featuring reigning champion Hadi Choopan, Derek Lunsford, and Samson Dauda, athletes pushed their bodies to the brink of exhaustion in pursuit of gold. Despite Lunsford’s recent entry into a division without size restrictions, his physique has flourished, adding mass and detail to his back and chest while his waist has remained slim.

Hadi Choopan showed up determined to retain his title as Mr. Olympia. His incredible muscle striations were certainly hard to contend with though ultimately the reigning champion would fall into second place. Samson Dauda showcased his finest performance on Saturday night, displaying enhanced back definition and an overall sharp conditioning. As a result, he secured a well-deserved third place finish.

Friday gave way to a showdown between Shaun Clarida and ‘The Prodigy’ Keone Pearson. All season long veterans of the sport predicted Pearson could pull of the unthinkable if he brought enough conditioning to match Shaun Clarida. Given Pearson’s shape, he held a unique advantage against Clarida who boasts a shorter and more compact stature. They fought through  prejudging and finals in a close battle that ended with a new champion being crowned.

Aside from the two front runners, Angel Calderon Frias, Kerrith Bajjo, and Ahmad Ashkanani maintained hard physiques through the show, which saw them nail down third, fourth, and fifth-place honors.

Classic Physique Olympia

Classic Physique Olympia was one of the most anticipated divisions to take the stage and didn’t disappoint. Chris Bumstead came in with all he had to claim his fifth consecutive Classic Physique title. Having bounced back from a bicep tear on the Olympia stage last year, fans were curious as to how the judging would play out. 

Interestingly, there was considerable online conversations about Ramon Queiroz’s chances at upsetting the long-standing Canadian champ. From the front, especially the front double biceps pose, Queiroz shined, and pushed Cbum throughout some comparisons. While an entertaining affair, the judges favored Chris Bumstead’s look once again. Ramon Rocha Queiroz took silver leaving Urs Kalecinski to lock down the third place finish.

Men’s Physique Olympia

Enthusiastic fans eagerly anticipated the Men’s Physique showdown, reminiscing about Erin Banks’ remarkable double victory at last year’s Arnold Classic and Men’s Physique Olympia, where he narrowly bested Brandon Hendrickson. 

This year, the 2023 Men’s Physique Olympia was poised to see a hard-fought battle between Ryan Terry and Brandon Hendrickson. Both men exhibited impeccable back development, though it would be Terry’s dryness that shocked the audience and secured him the 2023 Men’s Physique title. 

Aside from Terry’s triumph, Brandon Hendrickson, a former three-time Men’s Physique Olympia placed second. Meanwhile, in third was Erin Banks who was forced to surrender his title. With the Men’s Physique title changing hands so often, it remains one of the most talked about categories.

In what turned into a fire-fight, reigning and defending champion Andrea Shaw showcased arguably a better physique than last year. Although Angela Yeo presented a dominate front double biceps pose, Shaw never lost focus on stage and held her poses for as long as possible to give the judges a proper look. Shaw ultimately retained her title with Yeo trailing in second place.

When the smoke cleared, Alcione Barreto carved out a spot in third place, once again proving that she has the necessary tools to stand against the best women’s bodybuilders on the planet.

Making her debut appearance on the Olympia stage, Cherish Richardson secured herself in the top five taking fourth place in an impressive display of her incredible physique.

Fitness Olympia

Missy Truscott, the reigning Fitness Olympia champion, displayed an exceptional level of conditioning while she dominated the stage. During the pre-judging rounds, she shared the spotlight with former Fitness Olympia champion Whitney Jones. Unfortunately, both Truscott and Jones suffered injuries during their routines. While Jones was able to secure a fifth-place finish, Truscott’s placement was impacted significantly.

These unexpected injuries, while unfortunate for the athletes and their fans, created an opportunity for other competitors and resulted in a major reshuffling of the Fitness Olympia rankings. 

Oksana Grishina took full advantage making an impressive comeback following having to pull out from last year’s Olympia due to an injury. Grishina would finish the night on Friday earning her fifth title victory. While the 2023 also witness the remarkable newcomer Taylor Learmont clinch the silver medal at her Olympia debut following her spectacular routine.

Women’s Physique Olympia

The Women’s Physique Olympia contest was a highly competitive showdown as Sarah Villegas and Natalia Abraham Coelho battled it out for the coveted title. Villegas aimed to reclaim the championship she had lost to Coelho in 2022, and her determination paid off. She made history on Friday night as she became the first Women’s Physique Olympia champion to regain her title, solidifying her status as the second-most decorated bodybuilder in the division with three Olympia titles under her belt. 

It was the substantial improvements Villegas made to her back and overall conditioning that commanded attention on stage, enabling her to surpass her competitors and claim the victory. 

In addition, the Women’s Physique Olympia saw Zana Benta make a noteworthy debut earning a spot in the top five with third place, while Brooke Walker, who had taken third last year, slipped into fourth place this year.

The two-time reigning Wellness Olympia champion secured her third title win on Friday night following an incredible display of what has been described as the quintessential embodiment of the Wellness division.

After a fierce battle, Mattos faced a formidable opponent in the form of Isabelle Nunes. Francielle Mattos ultimately claimed the victory following a razor-close one point margin. Isabelle Nunes would take second place again this year after a respectable fight for the crown. 

In light of the remarkable display of talent on the Wellness Olympia stage, Elisa Alcantara earned a third place finish, a remarkable feat during her debut on the prestigious podium. However, Kassandra Gillis, who was fourth last year, would slipout of top five this year.

The 2023 Bikini Olympia roster boasted an abundance of celebrated competitors. Maureen Blanquisco, the current titleholder, faced the formidable challenge of defending her crown against three accomplished former champions: Jennifer Dorie, Elisa Pecini, and Ashley Kaltwasser, all of whom were in top form.

During prejudging it was Blanquisco, Dorie, and Kaltwasser who caught the attention of the judges and established themselves as strong contenders for victory. In the end, Jennifer Dorie’s impeccable fullness and exceptional overall balance secured her the coveted Bikini Olympia championship, marking her second triumphant title win.

Wheelchair Olympia

Saturday night brought an action packed Wheelchair Olympia, once again Harold ‘King Kong’ Kelley sought to retain he reign. However, as the show progressed it became clear that head judge Steve Weinberger was taking a closer look at the physiques of Josue Fabiano Barreto Monteiro and Karol Milewski. 

In addition to an impressive posing routine, it appeared Karol Milewski was pushing Kelley during many of the comparisons. Kelley had a powerful chest and his front double was challenging to stand against, though Milewski seemed to find momentum courtesy of his back poses.
