The most anticipated event for the 2023 Mr. Olympia wrapped up with a bang. Following a close fight between some of bodybuilding’s biggest names, Derek Lunsford reigned supreme as the first-ever two-division Olympia champion after earning the title of Mr. Olympia on Saturday, November 4.
What started as a loaded division slowly tapered down as many bodybuilders pulled out of the event. Although Nick Walker was out due to a hamstring tear, that didn’t take away from the spectacle of a show that was put on.
Derek Lunsford who sported a titanic back would go up against the reigning champion Hadi Choopan with incredible conditioning. In addition, Samson Dauda hit the stage boasting a physique better than he has ever brought. Dauda towered above his competitors during prejudging on Friday evening and carried that momentum into finals on Saturday.
Hadi Choopan wasn’t kidding when he stated during the press conference that he was ‘here to do the hunting’ when he flaunted a striated chest and razor-sharp conditioning, Though ultimately, it would be the improved shape and muscle conditioning that would earn Derek Lunsford the title of Mr. Olympia.
