A summer showdown between heavyweights is scheduled to go down.
Former boxing world champion Andy Ruiz is back and he’ll be sharing the ring with Tyrone Spong.
Triller Fight Club has announced that Ruiz vs. Spong will be held inside Plaza de Toros in Mexico City, Mexico on July 16. This heavyweight boxing match is scheduled for 10 rounds.
Andy Ruiz has had one fight since losing the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles. He defeated Chris Arreola via unanimous decision but it wasn’t easy. Ruiz was actually knocked down in the second round but he was able to weather the storm.
As for Spong, he had a rough go in his last MMA outing. He was stopped by Sergei Kharitonov via second-round TKO back in January. As far as his last boxing match is concerned, that took place back in Aug. 2019. He scored a second-round TKO victory over Jeyson Minda. Spong has a perfect pro boxing record of 14-0 but he’ll be a huge underdog for this match.
Triller Fight Club made note in a press release that more announcements for their July 16 card will be rolling out soon. The company also plans to have more info on other events in the near future. Nigel Lythgoe will be producing the July 16 broadcast.
