The Sunday Morning Rumor Mill

Ah, another Sunday and another rumor mill. If Dan Henderson didn’t pull off another legendary knockout and the University of Arizona didn’t dominate Gonzaga, this feature would not have happened. However since those two factors actually went down on Sunday, we’re rewarding the universe with the Sunday Morning Rumor Mill. As always, these are unverified rumors that have been floating around in the MMA industry, so take them for what they are — rumors. Enjoy.

.Last year Rampage Jackson signed a deal with Lion Forge Comics to create a series called ‘Street Soldier’ that’s based around his life with a slight superhero twist. According to Marvel, Street Soldier is just way too similar to Heroes for Hire’s Luke Cage. Now here’s where the rumor gets a little strange: One variation goes that Rampage Jackson has been in negotiations with Marvel to play Luke Cage in an upcoming film featuring Iron Fist, however his contract under Lion Forge Comics is preventing this from occurring. Another variation of the rumor is Marvel doesn’t want any brand confusion in their upcoming film and they’ve been talking to Lion Forge Comics for some sort of legal resolution.

.Although Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen was ‘officially’ announced during the UFC Fight Night 38 press conference, Wanderlei Silva still hasn’t signed the fight contract, which essentially means the promotion’s next event in Brazil may be scrapped entirely.

.Marvel planned to have Georges St. Pierre make an appearance on a UFC PPV card to promote Captain America: Winter Soldier, but their announced released date didn’t coincide with a PPV card.

.Along with the new season of TUF Brazil, the UFC plans to air more ‘international’ seasons of TUF exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.

.There will be an announcement regarding Tito Ortiz by Bellator by the end of the month or at the beginning of April.

.Apparently the UFC is close to closing a nationwide deal with Burger King. I’m not certain exactly what that deal entails.

.The UFC has or will be booking a date at the O.A.C.A. Olympic Indoor Hall in Athens, Greece for an upcoming card.

.World Series of Fighting teaming up in part with American Top Team is planing a TUF-like reality show.

.Red Bull is creating their very own TV channel and they’re looking towards the MMA industry for programming.
