Nate Diaz To Face Jorge Masvidal At Madison Square Garden

The highly-anticipated fight between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal has been made official! It is set to take place at Madison Square Garden, later this year.

When Nate Diaz beat Anthony Pettis at UFC 241, he called for a fight with Jorge Masvidal in the cage. There has not been another fight in recent memory that was met with such universal praise and approval. With Masvidal coming off a massive knockout over Ben Askren, and Diaz reemerging as a UFC star, this is the perfect fight for both men.

For a brief moment in time, it appeared that the massive fight was in jeopardy. However, it was announced today, via ESPN, that the fight between Diaz and Masvidal has been made official. Dana White explains the process in this video:

“masvidal was pumped for this fight, diaz is pumped for this fight. I’m excited for it, and i’m sure the fans are very excited to see this.

it’ll be the main event, five rounds of diaz vs masvidal, at madison square garden.”

This is surprising, considering that this will be the UFC’s first PPV in several years to not have a title fight in the main event. In fact, the last time was 2015 at UFC 183, which was instead headlined by a bout between Anderson Silva, and Nate’s older brother Nick Diaz. The only exception to that, is UFC 234 when the main event fell apart the day of the fight.

However, Dana said this bout is indeed being contested for a belt. This belt is the “Bad Mother-F***er” one that Diaz claimed to own, after beating Pettis.

Here are White’s thoughts on the “BMF” belt:

“I’m going to put together a BMF belt for these two, and they can fight for the bmf belt.”

That would be an incredible sight to see. UFC 244 is set to take place on November 2nd, at MSG. The bout between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will be an exciting main event.
