Fabricio Werdum Has His Eyes Set On Ngannou For UFC Return

Fabricio Werdum is currently ineligible to compete in the UFC, due to a failed USADA test. Despite this, he has his eyes set on his return fight, and knows who he wants.

Werdum failed a USADA drug test, which resulted in him receiving a suspension. Subsequently, he requested his release from the UFC. However, he was not granted this request, and was forced to sit out of action until May 2020.

While that return date is still a bit away, Werdum is still looking for what fight he could get upon his return. He has his eyes set on former title challenger Francis Ngannou. He spoke in an interview with Sherdog about this potential fight.

“The big guy, Francis Ngannou. He is a huge guy, a very strong guy. But, I visualize the fight with him and I saw when I finish him. I do this a lot, I visualize all my fights. When I fought Cain Velasquez, remember when I won the belt? I visualized everything. I would go to Mexico, stay there for two months. And become very focused. I like the fight against Francis Ngannou. A big challenge for me, I know he is strong, but I believe I finish him on the ground.”

This is a bold prediction from Werdum, who lost his last fight against Alexander Volkov. However, it is smart of him to keep his name relevant. On the other hand, Ngannou is currently riding 3 straight wins. His most recent victory was a knockout over Junior Dos Santos.

Nevertheless, 9 months is a long time in this sport, where people go from unranked to champion in a year. So as that May date gets closer, the heavyweight landscape could very well change for Fabricio Werdum.
