Bellator Champ Douglas Lima Confident He Would Beat Usman
Douglas Lima just captured the Bellator welterweight title over the weekend. This win has given him the confidence to believe he can beat UFC champions too.
Lima took on Rory Macdonald in a rematch, managing to dominate on the judge’s scorecards. As a result, he managed to avenge his previous loss, and recapture Bellator gold in the process. Moreover, this was the finals of a Grand Prix tournament, so he also walked away with a million dollars!
Following this win, the confidence of Lima is through the roof. Rightfully so, as it has been long thought that Macdonald was the best fighter in Bellator. For as long of a career as Lima has had, this is his biggest win to date.
This confidence translated in an interview with TMZ. Here, Lima was asked how he felt he compared to the fighters in the UFC’s welterweight division.
““I know real MMA fans, they recognize, they know I’m up there with those guys. They know I can beat, I can fight any of them. But, most of them it’s like, ‘Man, you’re not in the UFC, you’re a nobody.”
Lima continued, explaining that he felt he could beat UFC champ Kamaru Usman.
“Of course I would do great, I’d beat him. I’d probably KO him. He’s a great wrestler for sure, he wrestles a lot. But man, at any point in that fight if I connect, I can put him away. I don’t even think about that, I just know I can beat him, I can beat anybody at this weight class.”
If Bellator ever did a cross promoted event with the UFC, how do you think Douglas Lima would compare to the likes of Kamaru Usman?
