Douglas Lima Scores A Unanimous Decision Win Over Rory MacDonald, Reclaims Bellator Welterweight Belt!
The finals of the Welterweight Grand Prix are on tap. Welterweight king Rory “The Red King” MacDonald defends the belt against the man he defeated for the title at Bellator 192, on January 20, 2018, Douglas “The Phenom” Lima. It is taking place live now (Saturday, October 26, 2019) from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Both fighters are BJJ black belts. Rory MacDonald is in red gloves and matching trunks, while the former division king Lima wears blue gloves and green trunks.
The referee in charge of this championship bout is Keith Peterson. We’re underway!
Round 1
Fighters circle and the crowd gets nervous, we hear first boos. Leg kick Lima, followed by a left hand.
Left-hand front kick Rory. MacDonald lands a combo, but the crowd is booing again. Single-leg takedown attempt Rory, Lima somehow survives, ends up on the fence. Stalemate. MacDonald nearly secured a takedown, but Lima bounces off the cage. Here’s the bell, not much action, I think 10-10, even round.
Round 2
MacDonald kicks, Lima constantly goes forward. MacDonald circles to the right delivers a low kick. Leg kick Lima. And the crowd is getting impatient! Left hook miss for Lima, the kicks lands, and then a body shot. Lima keeps backing Rory up, and we hear more boos!
MacDonald shoots in, Lima on the cage again, he breaks free and punishes him with a left jab and right hook. Rory’s jabs are blocked well, Lima fires back. Left jab and big kick for Douglas. The round ends, 10-9 Lima.
Round 3
Another takedown attempt is stopped. Right-hand Rory, Lima responds with a devastating left punch. MacDonald goes for a single-leg, Lima is on the fence again.
Knees Rory, Lima pushes off the cage and manages to break free. Left jab, Rory misses takedown and high kick attempt. MacDonald aims to the body, leg kick Lima, followed by a front kick and another strong low kick to the thigh.
Combo Lima. The crowd is booing again, and then Lima lands a big punch, we hear “Let’s go Lima” now. Rory’s takedown attempt is stopped, he attacks Douglas with a barrage of strikes, but no significant blows. 10-9 Lima I think.
Round 4
Big left hook Lima and MacDonald is hurt! Leg kicks are punishing Rory, and now he ate a devastating left. Right jab hits its mark. Rory shoots in again, Lima sprawls and defends. Rory attempts a spinning backfist, missed by a hair.
The takedown is stopped, head kick Lima. Clinching on the fence, Lima turns MacDonald around, lands a knee, but now Rory transitions, Lima is on the cage at the moment!
Rory’s leg is heavily bruised. MacDonald misses with a spin strike, leg kick for Lima lands. High kick checked by Lima, 10-9 Douglas.
Round 5
MacDonald eats a big left hand at the beginning. He goes for a single leg, gets swept, and Lima is on the top of him. MacDonald defends with a butterfly guard, but Lima maintains the position well.
Elbow Lima, Rory is trying to go for an armbar but Lima keeps pouring devastating blows. Hammer-fists and big right hands. MacDonald is on his back, Lima postures up, drops a straight right, then gets back into full guard.
MacDonald sweeps, now he gets on top, but he’s not landing significant strikes. The crowd is booing again. Lima wins this round, 10-9.
Final Result: Douglas Lima defeats Rory MacDonald via unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45 and 50-45)
