Although Cris Cyborg seems to be living her best life, she is still being called out by fighters AND her old promoter.
Just when everyone presumed that that tension between Dana White and Cris Cyborg would finish after her liberation from the UFC, both of their names have made headlines once more.
During a media scrum yesterday (with MMA Junkie), Dana was clear that he stands FIRM on his stance that Cris did NOT want to fight Amanda Nunes. White stated:
“No, I wouldn’t do anything different,” the one thing I’m glad I did was I pushed her to make sure she fought Amanda Nunes because she didn’t want that fight the first time, let alone the second time. She wanted Cindy Dandois or Pam Sorensen. Those are the fights she wanted, and she was turning down Amanda Nunes. I said, ‘That’s not going to happen.’ So we kept pushing and pushing and pushing and finally, we got her to take the Amanda Nunes fight. I’m happy I did that. Other than that I wouldn’t change one thing in the last five years on Cyborg.”
The two have gone back and forth on the internet with various publications battling over remarks made in private conversation as to whether Cris wanted to face Amanda Nunes a second time. After her less than one minute KO loss to Nunes at UFC 232, Cyborg has claimed that she wanted another go at the “champ champ”.
Dana, on the other hand, claims that Cris wanted other fights and pushed for those before having a crack at Nunes once more. While the rumors swirl on who is telling the truth, one thing is for sure… Dana White is happy that Cris is gone.
White also stated:
“(Cris is ) Never happy, complaining about everything – she was a nightmare to deal with, and at the end of the day she knows, I know, Amanda Nunes knows, I tried to make that Nunes fight. She doesn’t want it. She doesn’t want it. She gets mad when I say I don’t blame her. I don’t blame her. If that was Amanda Nunes (at UFC 240) I think everyone can agree what would’ve happened in that fight. She’s unhappy, we’re unhappy, she lies and does that thing. See ya later. Have a nice life.”
Ouch! It seems like the relationship between Dana and Cris is beyond repair at this point. Do you think the two will ever mend their differences? Perhaps they should cool down and settle their differences at a Dunkin’ Donuts over a Coolatta.
