Cub Swanson Details Struggles With Fighting Kron Gracie
Cub Swanson is taking on Kron Gracie in a highly anticipated bout at UFC Tampa. However, ahead of the bout, he said that he has been having problems finding a place to train.
Swanson is one of the toughest fighters in the UFC’s featherweight division. He has fought basically everybody you can think of, and has a good amount of wins in those bouts. However, his next fight is against a relative newcomer in Kron Gracie.
The Gracie family is legendary in BJJ, and in mixed martial arts. With the Gracies helping the foundation of the early UFC, it comes as no surprise that the latest generation is met with excitement. However according to Swanson, this has caused him some problems.
When speaking on UFC Unfiltered, Cub Swanson explained some of the problems he has had while training for this fight. According to him, he has been having trouble finding a BJJ school that will train with him.
“I’ve been able to get a lot of jiu-jitsu in because he’s a Gracie, and he has the name. It’s been an interesting one. I’ve been kicked out of a couple of jiu-jitsu schools because of the respect. They don’t want to train somebody that isn’t a Gracie, which really pisses me off.”
However, Swanson says that training for this fight has reminded him of his roots.
“This is what I mean by it takes me back, because when I got into jiu-jitsu as a sport, it helped save my life. I was going down the wrong path. People know the story, I was getting into trouble, and I found jiu-jitsu. I fell in love, and I just competed all the time, and it became a passion.
I was really interested in the Gracie family and what they did. huge honor and respect to them and then after competing and doing all that, I learned the politics of the sport and how ridiculous it could be, and it kind of left a little sour taste in my mouth, and that’s why I started doing more MMA.”
Cub Swanson has never been one to back down from a challenge. He is not expecting to do so against Kron Gracie, at UFC Tampa. Even if he has had trouble finding someone to train with him.
