Kron Gracie: It Is “Kind Of Cool” McGregor Respects Him And His Family

Kron Gracie Finds “Kind Of Cool” The Fact That UFC Superstar Conor McGregor Respects Him And His Ancestors

BJJ black belt Kron Gracie made his UFC debut at UFC on ESPN 1 last Sunday night (Feb. 17 2019) where he choked out Alex Caceres to secure a first-round submission victory.

Conor McGregor is generally known for trash talk and provocative statements. But less than 24 hours before Kron’s UFC debut, the Irishman took to his Twitter and gave a nod to Kron Gracie and his family members for what they have done to this wonderful sport.

“Very excited to see Kron Gracie compete tomorrow in the UFC,” McGregor tweeted. “Son of Rickson, partner of Diaz. So much lineage. Very proud and exciting moment here for the prestigious Gracie family. Remember that without this family, none of us would have a job we loved.” He stamped the tweet with, “Good luck and Respect.”

Speaking to the media at UFC Phoenix, Kron Gracie praised Irishman’s positive comment and looked back on the success of his ancestors.

“Yeah, yeah, I heard, and it’s kind of cool to get that respect that he respects the Gracie family because it’s true none of us would be here without my uncle creating the UFC so yeah it’s kind of surreal sometimes you know that I mean, you know my grandfather, my Dad never lost, and me it’s kind of pretty interesting storyline and I’m here to make some noise, you know, to make some problems for everybody.”

There were many Gracie fighters who earned notable results in MMA.

Kron’s uncle Royce Gracie was the first fighter who showed the real power of BJJ in mixed martial arts. There were no weight classes back then. Despite he weighed only around 180-185 lbs, Royce was the winner of three out of the first four UFC tournaments, earning eleven victories in a row!

At UFC 1, on November 12, 1993, Royce shocked the world when he choked out Ken Shamrock and Gerard Gordeau. He forced Patrick Smith to surrender at UFC 2 on March 11, 1994. But Royce earned the biggest win of his career at UFC 4, on December 16, 1994, when he finished strong wrestler Dan Severn via textbook triangle choke.

Kron’s father Rickson has never lost a single match. Neiman Gracie competes in Bellator Welterweight division, and runs on a hot streak at the moment, with 9 wins in a row.
