Caleb Plant started a backstage altercation at the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford weigh-ins by punching Jermall Charlo.

On Saturday, July 29, Spence Jr. and Crawford will meet inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, for one of the biggest welterweight boxing matches of all time. The massive attention generated by the highly-anticipated fight has attracted celebrities and fighters to the fight capital of the world, including rivals Plant and Charlo.

Spence Jr. and Crawford officially weighed in on Friday evening. Although the action was supposed to take place on the scales, headlines were made due to a backstage altercation. Shortly after the weigh-in event, a video of Caleb Plant hitting Jermall Charlo went viral on social media.

Plant was pushed out by security while Charlo attempted to remain calm. ‘Hit Man’ seemed to lose his patience as he went after ‘Sweet Dreams’ until security focused on de-escalating the situation.

It’s unclear why Plant decided to hit Charlo.

Conor McGregor encourages Jermall Charlo to retaliate against Caleb Plant in a since-deleted tweet

Conor McGregor has gained a reputation for posting and deleting tweets about viral situations. The former two-division UFC champion followed the trend for the altercation between Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo. ‘The Notorious’ reacted to the near-brawl by saying:

“Get right back here this second Sir, you’re going nowhere till we settle this dispute here and now. Wtf is going on there? Clean cracked and let’s him walk out? No. Nope. Nah. Not a fuckin’ hope”

Plant last fought on March 25 when he lost a war against David Benavidez by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Charlo has maintained his undefeated record (32-0), with his latest fight being a unanimous decision win against Juan Macias Montiel in June 2021.

Although Plant and Charlo stole the show on Friday, the main event on Saturday night is still the focus in Las Vegas. Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. have an opportunity to extend their legacy by becoming the undisputed welterweight boxing champion. Only time will tell who can emerge victorious in the highly-anticipated generational matchup.
