  • Caleb Plant knocked Anthony Dirrell out in Round 9 to entertain the crowd as co-main event of Deontay Wilder vs. Robert Helenius bout
  • The 30-year-old bounced back from his disappointing loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez

Caleb Plant proved naysayers wrong in his super middleweight title eliminator bout with Anthony Dirrell at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In the ninth round, Plant put Dirrell to sleep by pulling one of the greatest knockouts of his career.

A huge turnaround

In the lead up to the fight, Plant and Dirrell did nothing but swore to each other that all they’ll back all the trash-talking up come fight night. However, it seemed like too much animosity was never good as the pair kept on coming up with an array of unnecessary actions that prompted the referee to hadn out warnings several times.

Plant was unapologetically clowning around every now and then from the opening to the 8th round. It reached the point where the crowd wasn’t pleased with what they were seeing and gave both fighters some humiliating “boo” chants. Fortunately for “Sweethands,” he managed to turn things around in Round 9 when he landed a nasty left hook that instantly knocked Dirrell out cold.

The punch was so hard Dirrell was evidently unconscious after he hit the mat. The referee was forced to waive it off, declaring Plant as the winner via KO.

Check out the fight highlights below:

Prior to the win over Dirrell, Plant was handed a crack at undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in a unification bout. However, Plant failed to upset the Mexican future Hall of Famer and wound up getting TKO’d in Round 11.

Did Plant convince everybody that he deserves a rematch with Alvarez? Let’s wait and see.
