Undefeated welterweight boxing champion Terence Crawford will be taking on Errol Spence Jr. in July.

There is a huge boxing bout coming up later this year as undefeated welterweight champ Terence Crawford will be taking on Errol Spence Jr. This bout has been a long time coming as negotiation problems have canceled and rescheduled it many times. Now it seems as if things are moving in the right direction and a date is set. The title unification bout will go down on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Despite the date being set, many fans are still reeling from all the cancellations and fail to believe this fight will go as planned. Crawford was a guest on The MMA Hour to assure them that as far as he knows all the contacts are signed.

“Yes, to the best of my knowledge, everything is signed. I’ve signed my part and I belive he has signed his part,” he said. “So, everything is everything.”

Back in November of last year, this fight was first put on the schedule. The deal was set and both parties seemed happy with the agreement to have a rematch clause, that stated the winner of the bout would earn the majority of the revenue in the rematch. Later the bout was scrapped. Now nearly half a year later this bout is moving forward and Crawford is mainly to thank for that.

Terence Crawford called up Errol Spence Jr. to make sure the bout got set

In boxing, especially between superstars, it can be difficult to come to terms and have the language set to make a historic fight. Crawford knows that this fight between himself and Spence is among the all-time great welterweight bouts. He did what he could to make sure that after losing out on this opportunity last year, he got it done this time around.

“This time around felt completely different,” he said. “You know, me and Errol we actually got on the phone and we both agreed that we both were going to do our best to make sure this fight happened. And we got it done. We here now, we’re about to put on, you know, one of the best welterweight showdowns and in a long time. I called him, I’m like hey listen, man, let’s get it on, and he was like he was all for it so, we both had the same mission, the same goal, to become undisputed, welterweight champion of the world and make history.”

Crawford’s last bout was a sixth-round KO victory over David Avanesyan in December. Spence last fought in April of 2022 when he defeated Yordenis Ugás to retain his WBC and IBF welterweight titles and add the WBA super-welterweight title. Now these two will put their belts and record on the line to see who is the best in the welterweight division.
