Ben Askren Talks Rematch With Jorge Masvidal
Ben Askren was dispatched by Jorge Masvidal in just five seconds. He would really like the opportunity to try that fight again.
Askren was on the receiving end of the fastest knockout in UFC history, by Masvidal. The fight had a ton of trash talk in its buildup, so this was a fairly disappointing result for Ben. As a result of the fight, Masvidal was able to earn himself a massive fight for the BMF belt against Nate Diaz.
When asked by MMAFighting, Askren is on board with the BMF belt. While he says that he does not care for either Masvidal or Diaz, he recognizes that it is a good idea.
“Honestly, I think it works from a marketing angle. I don’t love either one of the guys, but I think it definitely works from a marketing angle. They pitched it correctly, and I think it makes sense.”
However he has not given up thinking he is better than Masvidal
“What I said explicitly was I wanted to come back to see if I was the best in the world. In that five seconds, we didn’t find that out. We found out Jorge has a fantastic knee and that I’m not invincible, but we didn’t find much else out.”
As a result, Ben Askren is looking to be able to get a rematch with Masvidal eventually.
“That would be really nice. Again, we’ll see where the division goes and where I’ll be, but I hope so.”
Ben Askren is looking to get back to his winning ways, against Demian Maia. If he gets that done at UFC Singapore, depending on how Jorge Masvidal looks at UFC 244, perhaps a rematch between the two could happen.
