Manny Pacquiao’s Coach Freddie Roach Wants Mayweather Rematch
Following his latest win, there has been talk of trying to put Manny Pacquiao up against Floyd Mayweather yet again. If you ask his coach, Freddie Roach, this is a fight they want.
Mayweather vs Pacquiao is the highest selling North American PPV of all time. Although the fight was lackluster, it would see Mayweather walk away with the decision. However, since that fight, both men have had very different paths.
Mayweather would stay undefeated, even taking bouts with UFC fighter Conor McGregor, and kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa. Despite this, he has technically retired. Although, he has continued to keep his name in the news, staying relevant.
On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao has had a mixed bag of results since that fight. However, he manages to win most of his contests. This includes his most recent win over Keith Thurman, over the weekend.
Following this victory, Pacuiao’s coach, esteemed Freddie Roach, says his fighter wants to run it back with Mayweather. He spoke with TMZ, discussing this fight.
“[Floyd] would be a fight we’d want. I’d like to get that one back one more time. I know we can do much better. We had an injury in that fight, but regardless, we lost a close decision. I know Manny can do much better than that.”
Roach would continue, explaining why he wants the fight.
“Floyd’s last couple of fights against a kickboxer and whatever the other guy was [Conor McGregor] he wasn’t too impressive. I think it’s a good time to catch him right now.”
It was notoriously difficult to book Mayweather vs Pacquiao the first time. However, if Freddie Roach has his way, the fight would happen very soon.
” do think it could happen, yes. Probably not ’til next year. But, the thing is, it is a big fight out there. And, again a fresh Manny with no injuries, I love that fight.”
