The Sunday Morning Rumor Mill

The Sunday Morning Rumor Mill

The first Sunday Morning Rumor Mill on the new site, and after one of the most historic nights in MMA history. This week's SMRM is Anderson Silva heavy, as many of you would expect. I know many of you are still trying to grasp on to some sort of understanding after the wake of Chris Weidman's KO over The Spider. Well, don't read this feature for any closure. In fact, this is just going to bring more questions than it will answers.

So check out this week's edition of the MiddleEasy Sunday Morning Rumor Mill, and enjoy the few hours you have left until you're forced to go back to work.

.This week's rumor mill would be meaningless if we didn't discuss Anderson Silva and him intentionally losing to Chris Weidman at UFC 162. One theory states that Anderson Silva was simply tired of defending the title and in order to do other things with this combat sports career (like boxing Roy Jones Jr.) he needed to lose a fight to lower his status in the MMA world.

.Another interesting theory regarding Anderson Silva losing is that Silva was consulted before the fight to take a dive in order for Chris Weidman to be the champion and place further pressure on New York legislatures to legalize MMA in the state.

.An Instagram picture was recently released of Nick Diaz claiming he wants to fight again in the UFC. That picture (and corresponding message) is rumored to be released by Nick Diaz's ex-girlfriend, not him.

.Apparently if Anderson Silva successfully defended his belt at UFC 162, Roy Jones Jr. was going to enter the cage and challenge Anderson Silva to a match. Unclear as to what 'match' it was, but it's safe to assume it would have been boxing.

.Not really a rumor, more like a confirmation that I'm probably not supposed to tell you guys. However, as of last night, EA Sports will alter Anderson Silva's stats in the upcoming EA UFC game being released next year.

.Not only Vitor Belfort, but Michael Bisping blew up Dana White's cell phone asking for a title shot against Chris Weidman.

.Someone allegedly bet $1 million on Chris Weidman last night and Las Vegas is investigating it.

New York already has one champ in that buffoon Jon Jones. That hasn't done squat to get MMA legal in NY.

I like the conspiracy that now that Ando has lost he can pursue his dreams of being on Brazilian Dancing with the Stars in his down time.

Guys, remember when we didn't get a SMRM for like 100 Sundays? Even if a conspiracy rumor is "dumb" let's pretend it's the greatest thing since Kimbo Slice so that Zeus keeps putting them out.

Im just saying the idea of it effecting NY legislation is absurd. Zeus is prob just reporting the rumor and not coming up with it himself and for that I thank him. Long live the SMRM!

Also Bisping asking for a title shot is also stupid. He should try to win 3 fights in a row before asking. Hell even winning 2 fights in a row would be an accomplishment for Bisping.

Are you retarded? Bisping has strung together really long winning streaks in the past and was riding a 4 fight streak into his fight with Chael, just because you don't like him doesn't mean he sucks.

Anderson theories aside: the Diaz thing is just weird. Why doesn't he erase the pics of her? Just strange and strains the bonds of credulity.

I want to see Diaz fight again and wish him well, but if there is even a scintilla of truth here, then the drama in his life is clearly more important for him to deal with.

UFCs downfall was signing the FoX deal. We all know what kind of shit goes down with that network, one of the dirtiest networks if not THE most in the business.

NFL is shady as fuck. Even NBA and NHL are shady as fuck. (not FoX affiliated I know). No reason to think UFC doesnt fall into the category as well, especially now. Olympics, Soccer etc etc..I have a feeling this is the way of all major sports. Big business, no reason to think otherwise.

This is not to say the WHOLE show is scripted, but there can definitely be minor ''hiccups'' to ''shake'' things up or achieve a specific goal. In the NHL and NBA its questionable reffing that seem to push or pull certain teams away or towards the finals etc. people bitch for a day and everyone moves on, but you know one team just got fucked. We just accept it. Im not even saying the UFC is necessarily responsible for anything yet (although there are plenty of questionable things that need to be discussed), but it is an individuals game, not a team sport. Anderson Silva is just crazy enough to be up to something. He clearly fights with no fear, fucks with his bosses, with the media...if anyone is capable of being up to something, its this guy. Too many strange coincidences, and the uneasy feeling that pretty much 99.8% of the people who were watching last night got. Peoples spidey senses are tingling for a reason imo.

One thing I can say though, intentional or not, this is why I am so intrigued and love Anderson so much because even in defeat, he goes out on his Shield. No fear. The guy is gun-slinger (although he clearly didnt use his arsenal last night) and showed absolutely no fear in asking another man to PLEASE punch him in his face with his hands in his pockets. Thrilling non-the-less, WHOEVER you were rooting for.... Nobody else in MMA does this shit (the Diaz bros dont count because they are not on the same level)....

...Or if you prefer, you can sit there in awe and watch your champion rotate like a frog on top of inferior opponents and show zero finishing abilities. If thats your thing, all the power to you. Ill stick with the real GOAT. The man with one shot kill abilities and cat like reflexes and balls of steel.

I am skeptical about last night though, but it doesnt change how I feel about Anderson, and am comfortable with the loss in retrospect because Silva went against the grain, challenged himself and showed NO fear in doing so, and was gracious in defeat and cool as a cucumber afterwards as well. Very strange individual. I think in due time, little details will be revealed as to what the fuck happened last night.

You're right about the Fox deal. Kinda makes sense. Chris Weidman, all-American champion, would look great on a Fox card to attract new fans. He's very marketable in that sense compared to Silva.

-2 # Brick House 2013-07-08 07:49
Dude, if Silva isn't marketable, why the hell would Nike sign with him??? OF COURSE the dude is marketable! People love "GOATs," and they love and hate indestructible athletes. One side watches them to keep winning, and the other are waiting for them to fail... either way it's huge for capitalism. Take Ali for example, I remember in many parts of the US where Ali was HATED!

The good and the bad sell just as equally....

Weidman fought the man, not the myth, and came out on top. Grow up and accept that Silva is human.

LOL! Cry me a river f3gget. Silva was done after the Maia fight fool! He could have been the GOAT by going up in weight and cleaning out the LHW division, but NOOOOO he wanted to dance around like a f#gget, not fight, and give up, duck gsp and jj.

So Anderson Silva gave up his winning bonus, (400000)?????? And instead of being submitted, he decided to get knocked out and sustain a concussion, or possibly risking even worse injury?
He also decided to risk his reputation and possible legal problems for fixing a fight, Instead of simply walking away undefeated, when he grew tired of being champion?
He figured it would be better to tarnish his reputation, and undefeated status, making his brand worth less, than to simply vacate the belt????

He lost... Plain and simple. Weidman won on the cards, the ground, and knocked Silva into unconsciousness on the feet. All facts.
And no amount of belly aching is going to change it.
No dive, no fix, just a good left hook Silva didnt expect, by a really good fighter way above bonnars caliber.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that if Anderson just ''walked'' away from the belt to pursue other challenges....t he belt would be considered a joke. And the UFC would look like a joke for having a paper champion while the real champ is pursuing other fights. You yourself sound exactly like the type that would jump all over his ass for ''not doing his job and defending the belt''.

Dont you find it strange that Anderson predicted a Weidman victory in his ''ideal scenario'' PRIOR to the fight, and said the exact same thing AFTER the fight and decided to drop his hands like usual YES, but with ZERO counter-strikin g? This isnt just anybody man. Odds being very even, every employee coincidentally predicting the outcome, Anderson accepting defeat prior to the fight and saying hes comfortable with it then showing up and allowing a man to punch him repeatedly in the face with no resistance...le tting Weidman hold the belt at the presser. That is a LOT of coincidences is all im saying.

When has he ever done these things? I have no clue what exactly, but SOMEthing weird happened last night. I think even Weidmans corner felt it, including everyone I know who watched the fight. I dont think even you feel 100% at ease about the victory. I just cant see how. Anderson didnt fight. But he sure as hell made it exciting and went out like a gangster.

I agree with what SystemOL says below me to be honest. But if Anderson comes back and fights like Anderson again, I think that will speak volumes about last night. For now, its the haters time to shine and spew cum all over the internet. Theyve been holding that shit in for 7 years now. They can bust all the nuts they want to that hollow victory.

I still think a better rumor concerning Andy is that he was tired of his opponents leaving their balls at home under the sink. Everyone was so afraid of him that it got too easy for him to clown around and watch people do nothing in response, further enlarging his persona.

He pushed the limits as far as they would go until he finally realized that getting knocked out was the only way to get people to lower their expectations so he could get some decent competition again.

Much better rumor.

I'm glad to hear that EA will be adjusting Anderson's statistical data (punches thrown/landed, win/loss record etc.) based off his last fight. I mean, I expect statistical data to be updated and accurate for all fighters so the AI act more like they do in real life.

Now, if I were to hear that they were adjusting Anderson's ATTRIBUTES (chin, punch power, kick reach etc...) based on one performance, that would be something I'd be a little concerned about. Thankfully though it sounds like they are only adjusting his stats and that's a good thing!
