Trilogy fight with Colby Covington? Consider Kamaru Usman in.
Another title rematch between the two best welterweights in the world just took a step closer to reality following last weekend. Covington would maul his rival Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272. The wrestling skills of ‘Chaos’ would be no match for Masvidal, as he dominated on the ground.
Usman Reacts To The Result
The UFC Welterweight Champion would see it all for himself in Las Vegas. The unanimous decision victory for Covington wouldn’t surprise Usman, who expected more or less from his former foe.
“UFC 272 came to a close as expected,” Usman told ESPN. “I knew that Covington’s wrestling was going to be the big difference. Masvidal had moments in there, but Covington did his thing.”
‘Down The Line’
Following a performance like that, it looks like Usman sees a fight with Covington as a real possibility.
“So maybe down the line, I smesh.” Usman added.
It won’t be right away, however. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ dreams of rematching another familiar foe first. He wants to fight Leon Edwards at UFC 276 during international fight week in July.
Covington, surprisingly doesn’t want to fight Usman right away either. Instead, ‘Chaos’ has called for a fight with Dustin Poirier in the meantime.
Colby Covington may have lost to the current champ twice already, but both results came with some controversy. He believes the first fight was an early stoppage and that he was ‘robbed’ in the rematch by the judges.
