Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson added Max Holloway’s last-second knockout against Justin Gaethje to his list of all-time favorites.

At UFC 300, Holloway made history by shockingly knocking out Gaethje with one second left to become the new BMF title holder. A week has passed and the MMA community can’t stop talking about the gutsy performance that further solidified ‘Blessed’ as a living legend.

During an interview with InsideFighting, UFC welterweight Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson was asked about his reaction to Holloway vs Gaethje. He responded by saying:

“It was the same as everybody else’s. I’ve always been a big fan of Holloway. He’s another NMF (Nicest Motherf*cker) who just won the BMF, which is pretty crazy, going up a weight class. We’ve seen in the past when he would go up a weight class to fight Dustin Poirier. We kind of saw what happened there. I wanted my man Max to win, but I didn’t expect him to win it like that.”

‘Wonderboy’ continued:

“Max was just Max, man. At the end of the fights, if nobody has been put away yet, he says meet me in the middle, and I didn’t expect it to go like that because we know how durable Justin Gaethje is. To put him asleep like that was just epic. It was perfect.”

Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson labels Max Holloway’s UFC 300 knockout as top five of all time

Fans instantly labeled Max Holloway’s BMF title-winning knockouts as one of the greatest of all time. It’s difficult to determine what other finishes should join the top five, as personal preference is a significant factor. When Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson was asked, he had this to say during the previously mentioned interview:

“It’s up there [as one of the best knockouts of all time]. My top recent was the Leon Edwards and Usman fight. The flying knee, to me, is always number one, you know when Jorge Masvidal knocked out Ben Askren. It’s gotta be up there in the top five. Those two are kinda like the ones I really look back to and just remember it being one of the all time greatest knockouts.”

Max Holloway called out UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria during his post-fight interview. Topuria has voiced interest in the action-packed matchup, which could take place later this year. Holloway could also stay at lightweight and be a strong presence in the division’s title picture.
