  • “Ataman” is not interested in moving up to 165

Rafael Fiziev confirmed that the UFC is indeed coming up with a new weight class which would be at 75 kilos or 165 pounds.

Not a rumor

Speaking to Russian outlet Ushatayka, “Ataman” said he “heard” about the 165-pound weight class before and based on what the UFC had discussed, it’s already coming to fruition.

“It’s not a rumor, this is already for sure as far as I know,” Fiziev said. “I heard that this is already true and even they have already fought, they even identified something there, I heard. Yes. I heard that already.”

Rafael prefers to stay at 155

Fiziev has fought at lightweight his entire career and he is not planning to move up to 165 anytime soon. According to “Ataman,” he has been used to the weight cutting at 155 and he feels good doing it as he never had to deal with any kind of pressure.

“I feel good at 70 [kilos]. I ate pasta during the week of the fight. I ate in Fight Week, even before the weigh-in,” Fiziev revealed. “I’ve never had any issue with this. I just, out of discipline, sat down well before as I got a hold of it after the fight. Now, the experience has already come where you can restrain yourself where you need to not get ahold of something for the night. You don’t have to eat 10 snickers. That’s why it’s become much easier to lose weight in my last four fights. I generally lose weight like this, that’s why 75 [kilos], no.”

Fiziev has not fought since injuring his knee against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Vegas 79.

The rumors about the 165-pound weight class has been swirling these past few weeks. Stating the obvious, it would be a haven for those lightweights who have been struggling to make weight at 155. However, there is still no official statement from the UFC about the matter at this point.
