Nate Diaz Could Potentially Still Fight At UFC 244

Nate Diaz recently announced that he would not be able to fight at UFC 244. However, it seems that this fight is not quite lost, yet.

Diaz was expected to face Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 244. The event takes place on November 2nd, at Madison Square Garden. Moreover, this bout was for the “Baddest Motherf—er” belt. As a result, it was one of the most highly anticipated fights of the year.

However, in a tragic turn of events, Nate Diaz broke some news. He put out a tweet, explaining that he had been notified of “elevated levels” on an out of competition USADA drug test. Subsequently, he said that he was not going to be able to make it to fight week.

However, according to Ariel Helwani, this may not be the case. He recently tweeted that Diaz was not provisionally suspended by USADA. Therefore, he still has an ability to fight at UFC 244.

“According to a source close to the situation, Nate Diaz HAS NOT been provisionally suspended at this time.

There is increased optimism this fight won’t be canceled after all, however, hurdles still remain.

Developing.”

These hurdles that Helwani is referring to, is very likely Diaz himself. In his message, Nate said that he was encouraged to keep the news quiet. This comes as part of USADA’s new policy to not release information on these situations until after they are resolved. Nevertheless, he said that he is not interested in fighting, until the issue is cleared up.

Either way, it seems that fans are looking for any reason to think this fight will stay together. We will have to wait and see if Nate Diaz shows up at UFC 244.
