Leon Edwards is now not only a UFC champion, but a black belt in jiu-jitsu.
Leon Edwards Receives Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt
Its been a great stretch for Edwards as of late. He recently shocked the combat sports world by taking home the UFC welterweight title from Kamaru Usman.
The pair main evented UFC 278 on pay-per-view (PPV) last month. While Usman was winning the majority of the fight, Edwards caught the champion with a beautiful head kick for the knockout win.
Now, Edwards is the new king of the 170-pound division, and if that wasn’t motivation enough, he’s now a jiu-jitsu black belt.
Edwards took to Instagram recently and revealed that he has received his jiu-jitsu black belt from Gracie Barra. Check it out here:
Edwards has been one of the most dominant welterweights in the division as of late, aside from Usman.
Prior to his fight with Usman, Edwards was on a nine-fight win streak and taking out some of the best names in the division.
Now, the 31-year-old is the champion of the world, and likely has a rematch with Usman on the horizon to solidify himself as the top dog of the division.
However, given that Usman was knocked out during their first fight, he’ll likely take several months to recover before booking the rematch.
