Khabib Nurmagomedov already knows who will be coaching his young son in wrestling. Nurmagomedov is undoubtedly one of the greatest mixed martial artists to have ever stepped into the cage. However, he has since retired with an unheard of undefeated record of 29-0 in one of the most difficult sports in the world.

With that being said, many are excited to see what the next generation of Nurmagomedovs bring to the sport of MMA, including “The Eagle’s” own young son who could one day decide to follow in his father’s footsteps. It appears the wheels are already in motion for that to take place one day.

Khabib Nurmagomedov On His Son’s Wrestling Training

Speaking at a media scrum recently, Nurmagomedov was asked about his young son beginning to train in wrestling. When asked if he will be looking for a coach for his son, Nurmagomedov admitted that he himself will be training him, as there is no better option.

“I started walking on the mat because we had a gym at home,” Nurmagomedov said. “My son is already training and doing gymnastics. He has a good coach that I trust. He already trains in Makhachkala. He started earlier than I did, at 3.5 years of age. You have a better candidate than me?,” Nurmagomedov responded when asked if he has found a wrestling coach for his son. I’ll be coaching him.”

Nurmagomedov decided to retire from MMA back in October of 2020 after successfully defending his UFC lightweight title for the third time. It was also his third-straight finish inside the Octagon. Those last three wins included names such as Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje.

Despite no longer being active inside the cage, Nurmagomedov’s protegee, Islam Makhachev, is now the new king at 155 pounds. Even without actually competing, “The Eagle’s” fingerprints still rest on the lightweight title within the UFC.
