Khabib Nurmagomedov has no plans to fight again.
Nurmagomedov’s retirement after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October 2020 was one of the most emotional scenes in MMA history. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, Khabib’s dad and coach, passed away in July 2020, and the UFC Hall of Famer’s mother didn’t want him to continue fighting.

Despite rumors and fantasy matchups regarding ‘The Eagle’ returning to the Octagon, he has no plans of fighting again. During a Clase A Events convention, Nurmagomedov had this to say about respecting his mother’s wish for him to retire:
“Because of I finish my career, because I promise mother, that’s why this one question, discussion between me and my mother become very famous. But we had a lot of different things people don’t know about this. Not only this promise. I follow not only this promise to my mother. I follow everything about Mother. You can have friends or kids, whatever. You can have whatever you want, but you’re never going to have one more mother. You have only one mother. For me, it’s everything. For me, it’s everything.”
Nurmagomedov continued to detail the importance of having a positive relationship with his mother by saying:
“I love mother because of millions and millions of reason. I know even in Dagestan, this is not about Dagestan, but I know a lot of people have bad relationship with parents. I really, really don’t understand this. How can people have bad relationship with parents? Yes, mother, for me is everything. Even now, she is still with me, like living with me in same house. I treat her like queen.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team’s MMA record is insane
Before tragically passing away, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov started a revolution for Russian fighters in MMA. The most popular of the bunch is Khabib, but the six other fighters that train closely with ‘The Eagle’ have also found success.
ESPN MMA recently posted the combined record of Khabib, Islam Makhachev, Islam Mamedov, Zubaira Tukhugov, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Usman Nurmagomedov, and Umar Nurmagomedov. The record was astonishingly 142-11-3. Although ‘The Eagle’ has retired from fights, his journey as a coach is just beginning.
