  • Julianna Pena insists Amanda Nunes is the only fight she wants next
  • The UFC might also consider a trilogy fight between “Lioness” and Valentina Shevchenko

Almost five months since her devastating title fight rematch loss to Amanda Nunes, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Pena is still calling for a third match. Some believe that after the savage five-round beatdown by “Lioness,” Pena shouldn’t be handed an instant rematch. However, “The Venezuelan Vixen” insists that it’s the only fight to make.

Eyes on the prize

Speaking to Inside Fighting in an ambush interview, Pena said she’s not interested in any potential showdown with other big-name fighters such as fellow bantamweight champ Holly Holm as her eyes are locked on Nunes.

“Of course. That’s the only fight I see,” Pena said of Nunes’ trilogy fight. “Holly Holm should want to fight the champion. The one that has the belt.”

Pena even left her ultimate rival a parting message and teased:

“I’ll see you in the summer.”

When asked about her take on a possible clash with two-time PFL champion Kayla Harrison, who saw her flawless record coming to an upsetting end against Larissa Pacheco, Pena simply replied:

“She can’t make the weight class.”

There’s another trilogy bout looming

Judging by how things played out in the first two meetings, it appears that Pena’s call for a rubber match with Nunes is still valid. For one, “The Venezuelan Vixen” was the first fighter to end Nunes’ incredible 12-fight winning streak and she pulled it off via a stunning submission finish. The Brazilian then reclaim her throne by proving to everybody that she could maul Pena for 25 minutes.

However, another trilogy bout seems to be drawing interest from UFC matchmakers, including the promotion’s president himself, Dana White. According to White, a third fight between Nunes and reigning flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, whom “Lioness” beat twice in the past, makes sense.

The decision is still up in the air, but at this point, Pena’s interest is crystal clear.
