- Dana White commented on what could be next for Amanda Nunes
- The UFC boss explained why he prefers “Lioness” to fight Valentina Shevchenko again rather than Cris Cyborg
Stating the obvious, Amanda Nunes’ dominant win over Julianna Pena at UFC 277 left everyone thinking what lies ahead of the double champ. It is becoming apparent that a trilogy bout with Pena or reigning flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is on the list. And surprisingly, a rematch with Cris Cyborg is being brought up once again.
Dana will go for the fight that makes more sense
It can be recalled that “Lioness” dismantled her compatriot at UFC 232 in less than a minute. Shevcehnko, meanwhile, lost to Nunes in their first two fights at bantamweight but “Bullet” resurged and dominated the 125-pound division.
With Pena likely to take a lengthy time off, UFC president Dana White reckoned that between “Bullet” and Cyborg, it’s Nunes vs. Shevchenko 3 that “makes way more sense.”
“Amanda absolutely dominated Cyborg,” White told reporters after Dana White’s Contender Series 58 on Tuesday. “The Shevchenko fight makes way more sense, and I’m not just sh*tting on Cyborg because we’ve had history.”
No grudges
White went on to reiterate that his take on the subject has nothing to do with the drama between him, the UFC and Cyborg.
“To be honest with you, I usually don’t talk about this sh*t publicly – you know what I always say; I don’t tell you guys anything,” White explained. “But she actually texted me and wished me a happy birthday for my birthday. It’s not like Cyborg and I hate each other and I’m not trying to discredit her or be mean to her. I wish her the best in whatever she’s doing. It was nice of her to send me a birthday text. So I just wanted to reiterate that I am not sh*tting on Cyborg.”
Having heard White’s honest thoughts on the matter, and Nunes also keen on it, it starting to look like we’re gonna be witnessing an epic trilogy fight between two of the best female fighters in the world soon.
