Dana White Confirms Khabib vs Tony “In the Process of Being Made”

Dana White Reveals Khabib vs Tony in the Works

No fight has been attempted to be made more times than Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson. Also, it’s very possible that there’s not a single fight in UFC lightweight history with more anticipation. Recently, UFC President Dana White addressed the matchup during an interview. Additionally, he revealed that the highly anticipated fight between Tony and Khabib is finally in the works.

Dana White recently appeared on The Schmo vs The Pro. During the web show, he revealed the UFC’s updated plans for making the fight against Khabib and Tony Ferguson happen.

Dana White Hopeful for Khabib vs Tony in First Quarter of 2020

First, Dana revealed that there is actually nothing currently stopping the fight from happening.

“Nothing is holding (the matchup) up. The fight is in the process of being made. It’s obviously the next fight to make, so it will happen,” explained White.

Many fans have speculated that the UFC could perhaps move in another direction. Partly due to Khabib saying that he would love a chance to face Georges St. Pierre. Also, Conor McGregor has been clamoring for a rematch, even willing to face the champion in his home country of Russia.

White also confirmed that the fight is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2020. Also, he made it known that the fight is not completed, but simply in the works of being finalized.

The fight’s location was not discussed throughout the course of the interview. However, it’s possible that Khabib could get his wish of fighting in Moscow, Russia.

History of Booking the Fight

Khabib vs Ferguson has been attempted to be booked on four separate occasions. And, for all four attempts made, all of them failed. In 2015, the fight was first booked for The Ultimate Fighter finale in 2015. Unfortunately, Khabib had to pull out of the fight due to a rib injury.

Next, the fight was rescheduled for UFC on FOX 19 in 2016. During that time, Ferguson had to pull out due to an illness that affected his lungs.

After that, the bout was again rescheduled for UFC 219. Khabib was forced off of the card due to weight cutting issues that left him sick and unable to continue.

Lastly, the pair were expected to face off at UFC 223. However, Ferguson tore his ACL on a cable wire during a UFC press conference.

Now that the fight is in the process of being made again, fans can only hope and pray that the bout comes to fruition. One thing is for sure, no one will trick themselves into getting excited for the fight until both men make weight and are locked in the cage.
