- Mike Perry has publicly introduced his promotion Dirty Boxing Championship
- The promotion will implement hybrid rules
Mike Perry grabbed the opportunity to launch his own fight promotion called Dirty Boxing Championship ahead of his bout with Jake Paul.
A hybrid fighting competition
Perry founded Dirty Boxing Championship with former Karate Combat executive Adam Kovacs, and Josh McLean of Kanpai Media. Along with his team, “Platinum” introduced his hybrid promotion to the media.
According to Perry and the group, Dirty Boxing Championship matches will take place in a compact 18-foot ring, which is smaller than usual and will consist of three three-minute rounds, with championship fights lasting five rounds.
All kinds of strikes will be permitted, including the use of elbows and fighters who achieve a knockdown will be authorized to utilize subsequent ground-and-pound strikes but must stay standing on both feet during the action. Perry also revealed the customized 5-ounce gloves they will be using for the fights.
“This promotion has been in the works for over a year, and we started this because of my success in bare-knuckle, I feel there that are many great fighters and athletes out there that would like to compete in something like this but don’t exactly want to compete in bare-knuckle and take the gloves off. There are a couple names that come to mind,” Perry said.
“We’ve made 5-ounce gloves special for these dirty boxing events and there will be special rules to make this combat sport new compared to anything else that we have out there,” he added.
It’s faster and safer
The team also pointed out that Dirty Boxing Championship bouts are expected to be quick and therefore, the quicker the finishes are, the safer it is for the fighters.
“We want to see faster fights, we don’t want to sit around and wait for a decision, we want to give the person who’s doing the damage every opportunity to finish the fight quicker,” one of Perry’s co-founders said. “… If you’re able to get a person out of there faster, not taking damage constantly through the fight, then I think that’s where we keep the athletes safe.”
Dirty Boxing Championship is targeted to make its debut event in either September or October.
