If Amanda Lemos hopes to earn another crack at reigning strawweight world champion Weili Zhang, she’ll have to go through streaking submission specialist Virna Jandiroba.
Headlining UFC Vegas 94 in Las Vegas, Lemos stepped into the spotlight determined to snap the unbeaten streak of Jandiroba which includes a series of solid victories over Angela Hill, Marina Rodriguez, and Loopy Godinez in her last three outings.
Round 1
After roughly 40 seconds of dancing around the Octagon and reading each other’s movements, Jandiroba shoots in for a takedown but immediately finds herself in a guillotine. Lemos clings onto the hold but ultimately gives up with 3:30 left in the opening round. Jandiroba looks to pass the half-guard of Lemos, but the one-time title challenger defends the position while moving her body toward the cage.
Lemos explodes, attempting to improve her position, and nearly gives up her knee in the process. Lemos fights off the lock and gets back to her feet, but Jandiroba clings to her back and keeps Lemos from breaking free through the end of the round.
Round 2
After giving up the first round on the mat, Lemos looks to get her striking game going in the second, throwing a combination early before unleashing a solid front kick that lands on Jandiroba. 90 seconds into the round, Jandiroba rushes in and pressures Lemos against the cage wall. Jandiroba secures a single leg, but Lemos fights her way back up. Jandiroba continues to attack the right leg of Lemos but ends up pulling Lemos on top of her.
Jandiroba scrambles and quickly takes Lemos’ back, immediately looking to cinch her arm under the chin of Lemos. Jandiroba slaps on a body triangle and continues to fight for an RNC, but can’t get under the chin of her opponent. Jandiroba switches things up, transitioning to an armbar. With the hold locked in, Lemos had no choice, but to tap out.
