Brian Ortega Preparing For UFC Return

Brian Ortega has not fought since losing to Max Holloway, at UFC 231. However, he is ready for his return, and is gunning for a fight with The Korean Zombie.

Ortega is coming off of his first professional MMA loss, in a title fight against Max Holloway. He was thoroughly dominated in the fight that many expected to be close. Subsequently, he took some time off to regroup, heal from injuries, and prepare to return stronger than ever.

Ortega was expected to face Chan Sung Jung, The Korean Zombie, in the UFC Mexico City main event. However the fight was never booked, and Ortega has yet to return to action, 9 months since his last outing. Instead the UFC has chosen to book Yair Rodriguez vs Jeremy Stephens for the main event in Mexico City.

Speaking to MMAFighting, Ortega touched briefly on why the fight did not come to fruition, and what will be next. Although he was a bit vague on the specifics of what had happened.

“In my head it was great. “Korean [Zombie]” was talking smack, I felt good, I was already back to training, I was like cool. I had my boys in Mexico City set up, training facilities over there. I had a whole layout and then some unfortunate events in management and team and everything happened. Now we had to fix everything and now we’re back.”

While he did not explain what exactly happened, Ortega did continue by explaining that he still wants the matchup with Jung.

“I want to fight. I want to give the fans a main event fight somewhere. ‘Korean Zombie’ sounds good, especially after the fact that he’s talking s–t, which is not like him, so I’m guessing there’s something behind that. If he can keep talking and the fans want to see it and we can make that a main event somewhere, we should.”

Brian Ortega vs The Korean Zombie would be a fun fight, no doubt. However as long as they see “T-City” in the Octagon soon, fans will be happy.
