Aljamain Sterling is set to undergo stem cell treatment for a bicep injury that has been bothering him. Sterling has been dealing with a torn left bicep that is keeping him out of the Octagon, and from a much discussed clash with former division king Henry Cejudo, who is returning from retirement.
Sterling has been dominating the 135-pound division since his back-to-back wins over Petr Yan to establish himself as the top dog at bantamweight. He recently successfully defended the title against TJ Dillashaw in his second-ever title defense on record. Now, he’ll heal up before what is, arguably, the biggest fight of his career.
Aljamain Sterling Set For Stem Cell Treatment
Sterling took to his Twitter account to reveal that he’ll be heading off to Colombia soon to undergo stem cell replacement therapy, hoping it assists with the nagging injury.
“Next weekend I’m off to Medellin, Colombia for the @bioXcellerator stem cell treatment program! I’m very optimistic that this will have me back and ready to compete sooner than later.”

“I believe that this procedure will help kind of get me through without needing surgery and get me back to competing and being at 100 percent,” Sterling said. “So I’m very much looking forward to this. I know Joe Rogan has nothing but good things to say. I know Kamaru Usman, Frankie Edgar, Chris Weidman, Al Iaquinta, so I’m hoping I could follow in these guys’ footsteps and have nothing but success with the results and the trip all the way out there to Colombia.”
Aside from a potential clash with Cejudo, No. 1 contender Sean O’Malley is also waiting in the wings for his shot at the gold. O’Malley has quickly established himself as one of the UFC’s most promising young stars. He also owns a big, yet controversial, win over Yan in his last outing.
It will be interesting to see how the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) powerhouse handles the current landscape of the division given Sterling’s injury and O’Malley’s current status.
