Andy Ruiz Jr. is victorious once again.
The former heavyweight boxing champion headlined yet another card, this time taking on Luis Ortiz. The two men met in a pay-per-view main event on Sunday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
How The Fight Played Out
It was a back-and-forth battle between Ortiz and Ruiz Jr. But, ultimately Ruiz’s power would prove to be a massive problem for ‘King Kong’. The heavy-hitting ‘Destroyer’ would score three knockdowns on Ortiz across 12 rounds of action.
Ortiz would manage to survive the onslaught multiple times, even managing to land some big shots and rock Ruiz himself. He did win some rounds of his own but it wouldn’t be enough for Ortiz when the fight hit the final bell.
All 3 judges would see Ruiz Jr. as the clear victor after it went the distance.
Official result: Andy Ruiz Jr. defeats Luis Ortiz via unanimous decision (113-112, 114-111, and 114-111)

Upon winning, Ruiz will have the opportunity to challenge Tyson Fury for the WBC title. Fury is in negotiations to fight Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title. Another possibility for an upcoming Ruiz matchup is Deontay Wilder, who was present at Sunday’s match and will return to the ring next month.
In the meantime, Ruiz continues to be in contention for a heavyweight title. As a result of his TKO victory over Anthony Joshua in June 2019, he achieved the distinction of becoming the first heavyweight champion of Mexican origin.
