Logan Paul Spends Big For Rare Pokemon Card
The Mirror UK reports that Paul dropped over $5,275,000, a new Guinness Book of World Records record, to secure the 10/10 perfect condition ‘Pikachu Illustrator’ card.
It wasn’t an easy feat either, Paul made some lengthy trips to get the card; traveling from California to London, Italy and Dubai.
The deal was finalized just days before Paul made his big WWE debut back in April at WrestleMania 38. He teamed up with The Miz in Dallas, Texas to take on and defeat The Mysterios in tag team action.
The card Paul purchased has quite a unique history. It was given out as a special promotional prize for competitors of the card game back in the 90s in Japan.
Only 39 were ever made. Artist Atsuko Nishida drew special versions of the Pikachu character, with only as low as 20 believed to be left in circulation. However, what make’s Paul’s card so special is that it’s the only one to achieve a 10/10 rating from the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA).
Paul documented the purchase on his YouTube channel, as the video managed over 800,000 views in 15 hours.
“I wasn’t convinced that you existed,” Paul told the seller. “People were like ‘yeah the Pikachu Illustrator is the most expensive card, there’s some 9s out there,’ and then there were rumours that there was one ten.”
