Eddie Hearn wasn’t impressed by either Jake Paul or Nate Diaz.
Earlier this month, Paul and Diaz fought in the main event of a pay-per-view event in Dallas, Texas. It was a big fight as Paul was coming off his first career loss to Tommy Fury and many in his camp said if he lost he would retire from boxing.
Ultimately, it was Jake Paul who won a decision, but Eddie Hearn was not impressed by the fight as he said it was awful. He also shared the key reason why it was bad as he claims Paul should have finished Diaz if he was a good boxer.

“It was awful,” Hearn said on The MMA Hour. “Don’t get me wrong, the event was unbelievable. You did a great job. Brilliant. But when you’re talking about — you know MMA like the back of your hand. I know boxing like the back of my hand, and I’m watching that like [face in his hands], ‘This is so bad.’ The reason that Nate didn’t get stopped is that Jake didn’t have the ability. He doesn’t know how to break a fighter down, cut off the ring, beat him up, and stop him. But I give my props to Nate: super tough. Super tough. But you’re talking about low, low level in terms of standard.”
Eddie Hearn doesn’t like Jake Paul’s chances to win a title
After the win, Jake Paul claimed he is a new fighter and has vowed to win a boxing world title in a few years.
It was a bold claim when he said it and Eddie Hearn says that couldn’t be further from the case. Instead, the promoter says Paul couldn’t even win a state title or an area title which the U.K. has.
“We have something in the U.K. called an area title, which is in a specific radius — it’s kind of like a state title,” Hearn said. “These guys wouldn’t win a state title – that’s the level they’re fighting at. But listen, props to Nate. He definitely didn’t have ability, but what he did have was grit. But Jake just doesn’t have the ability or the experience to break someone down and stop them. And I was convinced he would.”
Ultimately, Jake Paul is confident he has all the tools to become a world champion. But, Eddie Hearn doesn’t think that will happen, so time will tell if it happens.
