- Brendan Schaub thinks Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul would help the UFC penetrate Netflix in the future
- “Big Brown” explained why it’s impossible to hurt a fighter with 16-ounce gloves
Brendan Schaub believes Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match would only be the UFC’s ticket to a partnership with Netflix.
Tyson vs. Paul is good for the UFC
Speaking on his YouTube channel, “Big Brown” predicted that Tyson vs. Paul wouldn’t be a fight like how it is being promoted, especially with both fighters using 16-ounce gloves. Moreover, Schaub suggested that even though Paul doesn’t like it, his boxing match with “Iron Mike” would serves as a “trojan horse” for the UFC to get into Netflix.
Schaub believes that the success of the Tyson vs. Paul fight would only open the door for the UFC to follow suit and Netflix might consider streaming live fights again.
“I would bet my bottom dollar… There’s no winner,” Schaub said. “Mike Tyson’s not going to get embarrassed, Jake Paul’s not going to get embarrassed, they’re in 16-ounce gloves. But again, I tell you guys this, this is the Trojan horse to get the UFC into Netflix. That’s all this is, it’d be the most watched fight of all time, that there’s no finish, there’s no decision, it’s kind of this weird fight, and all it is is a Trojan horse to get the UFC to Netflix.”
16-ounce is different
More about the 16-ounce gloves, Schaub pointed out that fighters use it in training to avoid causing serious damage. That said, the former UFC heavyweight fighter is convinced Tyson and Paul wouldn’t hurt each other unless one of them lands a perfect and powerful shot.
“It’s what you train with. Now you can knock people out in training, [if you] catch them right, so there’s still a factor there where if this is 100% real fight… Jake were to catch Tyson on the chin or Tyson catches Jake on the chin, with 16-ounce gloves you could still do some damage but nowhere near like 10-ounce gloves, not even close,” Schaub concluded.
Despite the speculations, Tyson insists that he and Paul are about to pull off an epic fight. The boxing legend even admitted that he is “scared” heading into the match but he vows that “The Problem Child” is in for a rude awakening.
As for the UFC, Dana White previously stated that he is not interested in Tyson vs. Paul.
Tyson vs. Paul will take place on July 20 and will be streamed live on Netflix.
