Derrick Lewis is ready to prove that he’s still in the mix of title contention and put Daniel Cormier on blast for doubting him.

Top-ten-ranked heavyweight contender Lewis was last seen in action against Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 277 last July. Pavlovich came out firing from the bell and handed Lewis an anticlimactic quick finish in under a minute. Following the defeat, Lewis dropped two in a row and went 1-3 in his last four outings, with a sole win coming over Chris Daukaus.

During the UFC Fight Night 218 pre-fight press conference, Derrick Lewis declared that he would redeem himself the next time inside the octagon. He also bashed former two-division champion Daniel Cormier for doubting his place in the mix of title contention.

“I guess because they feel like my work ethic wasn’t there,” said Lewis. “They felt like I wasn’t taking myself serious or the fight game serious or whatever and so, I don’t blame them. But I got to go out there and prove to everyone that I could still do this. I could still be in the top five. I don’t give a damn what ‘DC’ says. I seen that bullsh*t.

“But I guess you got to say that whenever you have high cholesterol. F**k him!”

Lewis will be back in action this Saturday

Lewis was originally scheduled to face Sergei Spivac in the headlining bout of UFC Vegas 65 last November. Just hours before the fight, the contest got scrapped after Lewis fell ill and needed a visit to the hospital.

“I got pretty sick. I got a fever, started losing weight, throwing up, everything you can imagine, and falling asleep randomly. I’m feeling good now. But for sure there were some frustrations because we worked hard getting ready for that fight. I believe that we work even harder for this one.”

Derrick Lewis will get to take on Spivac in the main event of UFC Vegas 68 this Saturday.
