- Daniel Cormier is not in favor of Michael Chandler getting pay-per-view points from UFC 303 as Conor McGregor is the reason people are buying it
- DC thinks “Iron” could’ve made the same amount of money as he would in the fight with “Notorious” if he took on other fighters while waiting
Daniel Cormier doesn’t think it’s fair for Michael Chandler to receive some pay-per-view points at UFC 303 when it’s Conor McGregor who induces the vast majority of sales.
DC says Conor should get more than Mike
Speaking on his “Funky and the Champ” show with Ben Askren, DC didn’t shy away from expressing his real thoughts on the pay-per-view points Chandler could get from his blockbuster welterweight showdown with McGregor at UFC 303. For Cormier, it’s only proper that “Notorious” get all the PPV points as he is undeniably the one generating the buys.
“I don’t know why you would give pay-per-view points to someone that’s not going to drive the sales and this is not me hating on Mike. He’s not driving the sales on his one. When you fight Conor McGregor, Conor’s driving the sales, he’s obviously going to be a part of the pay-per-view and part of the business,” Cormier told Askren.
“Mike’s still ranked in the top five or six in the world, so yeah, of course he’s compelling. Ultimately this one feels like it’s about McGregor, and part of that reason is because Conor continues to tell you how he’s making all these decisions, and essentially telling Mike, ‘We’re doing this, we’re doing this, we’re doing this,'” he added.
DC thinks Mike may have overvalued the Conor fight
Cormier also spoke his mind on Chandler’s long pursuit of a fight with McGregor. According to DC, “Iron” must have “overvalued” the “Notorious” fight in terms of pay as he could’ve made the same amount of money in the past almost two years fighting others while waiting for McGregor.
“Do you think that Michael Chandler has overvalued this fight a little bit because now he makes a lot of money right, he could have fought two to three times by the time this fight takes place. Is he going to make three times the money for this fight or is he essentially going to just break even now? Because he’s been sitting on the shelf for so long that he was missing money,” Cormier commented.
Chandler knows he lacks the charisma of a McGregor in promoting fights but he believes he has proven that he deserves the biggest fights and paychecks. In fact, “Iron” is already planning to face Max Holloway for the BMF title possibly after he beats “Notorious” at UFC 303.
