Dwayne Herelle, an 0-2 MMA fighter, has been arrested for murdering his girlfriend.
Herelle has thrown his life away after a deadly altercation with Irene Torres. According to police reports, the 28-year-old showed up at Torres’ house in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, January 29, at approximately 1:30 am, leading to an argument for an unknown reason. The situation escalated, leading to Herelle stabbing his girlfriend until she died.
Torres’ parents revealed that Herelle had a history of physical abuse towards their daughter. Therefore, they began to worry when the 24-year-old woman was seen being dragged by Herelle on security footage. Once police arrived, the MMA fighter stated he had not seen his girlfriend since the previous Friday, which was clearly untrue.
Torres’ father took matters into his own hands and confronted Herelle himself. After continuing to lie about the situation, the 28-year-old finally admitted he stabbed his girlfriend to death. Torres’ body was later found in Herelle’s closet, wrapped in a comforter. Since then, the 0-2 fighter has been detained at Davidson County Detention Center after being charged with criminal homicide.
The MMA coach of Dwayne Herelle speaks out
What Dwayne Herelle did was horrifying, and he deserves the maximum prison sentence. MMA coach Chris Beasley was asked about the situation by WKRN News 2, detailing his former student’s personality while being shocked that Herelle would commit such a crime. He had this to say:
“It blows my mind because I never ever would expect anything like this from Dwayne. He was such a nice person. He would always go out of his way to help people… You got two different faces – you’ve got your face that you show everyone and you’ve got your face that you keep private. It’s amazing how people can look you in your eyes, be a nice person, and then turn around and be something else.”
Herelle was a lightweight MMA fighter who last competed in August 2018. He had a promising start to his career, winning both of his amateur fights, including one inside the distance. The 28-year-old couldn’t find the same success on the professional level, losing both of his fights. Herelle will hopefully spend the rest of his life behind bars for the trauma he has caused Irene Torres’ family.
