In the 1993 movie Demolition Man, the film concludes with Simon Phoenix escaping Cocteau’s headquarters and going to prison to gather more convicts to build his rebel army and combat the police department. Since Sylvester Stallone seems to be the only person that can stop a violent criminal in a dystopian future, he enters the prison and eventually defeats Simon Phoenix by cryogenically freezing his body and then beheading him.
In this scenario, Sylvester Stallone’s part was played by Joe Silva, and as always, Melvin Guillard is (was) the closest thing the MMA world ever got to having a real-life Simon Phoenix. Of course the beheading is the same, except it was solely Guillard’s UFC career getting the unexpected decapitation.
According to our buds at MMAFighting, after going 2-5-1 in his last eight outings, Melvin Guillard is no longer employed with the UFC. Well, it looks like Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez will finally have someone to fight in the Bellator lightweight tournament.
