Undefeated light heavyweight prospect Tanner Marlow and one other individual were killed during a Christmas Eve shooting in California.

As reported by ABC TV 23 in Bakersfield, Marlow, 30, was at his home when an armed assailant forced his way in. Marlow who was armed as well, reportedly engaged in a shootout with the other man, identified as Jacob Malena. The report states that Malena forced his way into the home of his estranged girlfriend. Marlow was there at the time and attempted to defend himself in a confrontation that resulted in both men losing their lives.

After going 3-1 in his amateur career, Marlow turned pro, scoring four straight victories, though he was inactive for many years in between each win. His most recent appearance came under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner in June where he earned a second-round knockout of Joel Guzman at LFA 134.

Marlow’s agency, Iridium Sports Agency, released a statement following the tragic news of his passing.

“We’re heartbroken over the tragic passing of our Team Iridium brother Tanner Marlow. Tanner is remembered fondly as one of the most promising unbeaten prospects in the sport of MMA, and a very proud family man. Tanner is missed greatly, and we extend our sincerest condolences and prayers to his family, friends, and team at this difficult time.”
