Even Steve-O has chimed in on the criticism towards Dana White’s new Power Slap League. The league launched earlier this year shortly after the sport of slap fighting began to go viral on social media. However, given some controversy involving UFC president Dana White and his wife on New Year’s Eve, the league faced a bit of backlash upon its launch.

Also, the ratings for the first Power Slap League event didn’t do too well for the promotion. With that being said, it remains to be seen what the future will hold for the endeavor as the year continues to roll onward.

Steve-O Sounds Off On Power Slap League

Recently, longtime “Jackass” star and noted mixed martial arts (MMA) fan Steve-O took to his podcast, “Steve-O’s Wilde Ride,” and spoke to UFC legend Chael Sonnen. During the conversation, the pair discussed the new Power Slap League.

Steve-O compared the League to the infancy of the “Jackass” show that got him his big break. He knew his TV show would be popular, but the issue was going to be getting it televised. However, looking at the Power Slap League, Steve-O is surprised it’s even being televised given he doesn’t feel it has much popularity around it.

“The point I was making before about how I pictured Jackass being popular but I was having trouble getting on TV – I don’t necessarily feel like Power Slap is even – maybe it is popular. But there’s something about what we did that was kind of cute, silly, clever, as well as dangerous. But this slap thing just doesn’t feel like it’s that. I love a great wild and crazy thing, but I struggle with it.”

Aside from the controversy involving Dana White before its debut, the Power Slap League has received backlash for multiple other situations; including low fighter pay, injury, lack of defensive ability, and so much more. This likely won’t be the last bit of criticism the league faces moving forward either.
