Sean Strickland believes Daniel Rodriguez didn’t train for his loss recent fight against Ian Garry.

At UFC Charlotte, Rodriguez suffered his second consecutive loss when Garry landed a head kick and followed up with a ground-and-pound TKO finish. The 36-year-old is now in a must-win scenario for his next Octagon appearance after losing the momentum from his previous four-fight win streak.

Strickland reacted to Rodriguez’s loss against Garry by saying this on Twitter:

“Daniel Rodriguez vs Ian Gary… Whenever I lose a fight you the only thing I can’t say is I didn’t train for it.. I work my ass off every camp. I bleed more in camp than fights… Daniel Rodriguez on the other hand…. ZERO REAL TRAINING. For that fight”

Rodriguez made his UFC debut in February 2020. After starting his promotional tenure with a 3-1 record, the California native became a potential contender with four consecutive wins before losing his last two. ‘D-Rod’ hopes to get back on track in his next Octagon appearance.

Meanwhile, Garry is expected to replace Rodriguez as the number fifteen-ranked welterweight. ‘The Future’ holds a 12-0 professional MMA record, with five wins in the Octagon. The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the most talked about UFC prospects.

Sean Strickland claims Daniel Rodriguez was just paid to make weight

Sean Strickland isn’t shy to voice his opinion. Not only does he think Daniel Rodriguez didn’t train enough for UFC Charlotte, but the UFC middleweight contender also claims ‘D-Rod’ only cut weight to collect a paycheck. He followed up on his first tweet by saying:

“I’m not saying Garry isn’t good, I think he skilled.. I just hear these announcers on YouTube “wow Rodriguez has never been put away like that”   Rodriguez was paid to make weight, he didn’t train, he didn’t spar   Many UFC fighters are that way who aren’t top 10 surprisingly.”

On July 1, Strickland looks to continue building momentum after defeating Nassourdine Imavov on short notice in January. The number seven-ranked UFC middleweight is taking on Abus Magomedov, who secured a 19-second knockout in his promotional debut in September 2022. The intriguing striking matchup will headline UFC Vegas 76.
